St Oswald's Hospice received a staggering £195,400 after forty Shaun the Sheep sculptures went under the hammer in Newcastle, UK.

37 large Shauns and 3 small Shauns were sold, all with a starting pice of £1,000.

The most popular piece, named ‘Wor Shaun’ sold for £11,000. The sculpture was sponsored by Newcastle United Football Club and painted by Dan Lycett of the NUFC fan group Wor Flags, who provide thousands of flags for the football club on match days.

‘Toon Barmy’, another Newcastle-themed Shaun, was sold for £8,000, and ‘Art is Mischief’, which saw Shaun poking his face through a Mona Lisa, sold for £10,000.

Steph Edusei, St Oswald's chief executive, said: "Seeing each sheep sell for such huge amounts, and the joy it brought people to buy them, was just incredible."

St Oswald’s is hoping to organise another character art trail in the future.
